Abe Lincoln, portrayed by Gerry Payn, spoke to a full house last
night at Greene Eagle Winery commemorating the first step of his
journey from Springfield Ilinois to Washington after winning the
Presidential election of 1860.
President Lincoln recited his farewell address given 150 years
ago to the day Feb. 11, 1861 at the Springfield train station.
Spanning time, Abe recounted a few boyhood stories to memories
about some of his political acquaintances.
He talked about the ravages of the civil war and the loss of life
of some 670,000 Americans vs. Americans.
He recited the Gettysburg address and parts of his second
inaugural address.
Finally, Mr. Lincoln took questions from the audience and then looking
at his watch said he had to take leave as he and his wife Mary
were going to see a play at Ford's theatre...
